Frequently asked
Why does Poised need microphone and speech access?
Only after you tap the microphone, Poised uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition. Audio is never saved or uploaded. If either permission is unavailable, every rehearsal remains usable by text.
Can I correct voice transcription?
Yes. After you finish speaking, review and edit the recognized text before sending it for role-play and coaching.
Does Poised save my rehearsal transcript?
No. Audio never leaves your device, and Poised does not keep a server transcript archive. Bounded rehearsal text is sent to DeepSeek only to return the role-play or coaching you requested. DeepSeek's policy says it may process and store submitted text in China and may use it to improve or train its services; see the Privacy Policy before entering sensitive text. Poised itself does not train a model on your rehearsal. A completed reply or debrief may be held in encrypted-at-rest Cloudflare storage for up to seven days, keyed to the single request that produced it, so that a request delivered twice cannot be charged or answered twice. An exact transport retry can recover that response while the bounded receipt still exists. The receipt may include a line quoted from text you submitted, but it does not contain your raw audio or a full server transcript archive.
How do I restore Pro?
Open Poised Settings or the Pro screen and tap Restore Purchases. Use the same Apple ID that bought the subscription. Restore reports whether an active subscription was found.
How do I cancel?
Open iPhone or iPad Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Poised. Cancelling stops future renewal; access continues to the end of the current paid period.
How do I delete data?
Open Poised Settings → Delete local practice data. This removes coaching history, delivery summaries, and saved conversation plans. Poised has no user account or server transcript archive.
A reply failed—did I lose my free rehearsal?
A free rehearsal is counted once, when the rehearsal starts—never per turn. Retrying a turn, editing your response, or losing a reply partway through a rehearsal cannot cost you a second one.
Individual attempts are separate from the rehearsal. A request that is rejected before DeepSeek starts is put back. After processing may have started, a timeout, cancellation, malformed provider answer, or broken connection can count even when you never saw the reply. An explicit Retry can be a fresh attempt. Free includes five rehearsal starts, up to 12 AI reply attempts, five basic debrief attempts, and 12 generated-voice replies in a rolling seven days; one Free session can use at most eight AI replies. Each grant or attempt frees up seven days after it was used. When a session reaches its limit, end it to request the basic debrief.
Does Pro have fair-use limits?
Yes. Pro includes up to 40 AI reply attempts, 10 debrief attempts, and 40 generated-voice replies in any rolling seven days. Failed or cancelled requests may count when processing may already have begun. The app shows a server-based reset time for a rolling limit; it does not promise that access returns “tomorrow.” There is no extra charge when a fair-use limit is reached.
The number of free rehearsals shown in the app is the server's own answer. Poised keeps a copy of that answer on your device so the screen has something to show before the next request, and until the server has ever answered—your first rehearsal, or an offline start—the app shows its own count. If it cannot stand behind a number—an answer it can no longer place in time, or a request the server has not since accounted for—it shows no number and asks the server. A reply that arrives without the server's own figures on it, which is what happens when the server itself hits trouble finishing with your rehearsal, counts as unaccounted for: an answer arriving is not the same as the ledger being settled.
The app never refuses you a rehearsal on its own. If its stored copy is out of date it can only be out of date in your favour: you start the rehearsal, and only the server can tell you your free ones are used up. It says so in its reply, and the app offers you Pro at that point rather than turning you away beforehand on a guess.
Is Poised therapy or crisis support?
No. Poised is everyday communication-skills practice. If you may harm yourself or are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services. In Australia call 000 or Lifeline 13 11 14; in the U.S. or Canada call or text 988. Find other local services at Find A Helpline.
